Well I got word from my Dallas couple that their baby boy made his debut three weeks early.  In honor of Hudson's arrival, I thought I would show you guys the final shots of his nursery!  I'm so pleased with how it turned out, and more importantly, that his parents are so happy with it.  I received an email from Hudson's dad last week saying this...  "{The nursery}  looks awesome and everyone that sees it is floored by how nice it looks!  Aimee’s friend started crying the first time she saw it, so just wanted to let you know how amazing your work is!" What a compliment!  It really was a pleasure working with such a sweet couple and making their dream nursery a reality.  Now let's take a look at the final reveal... My long weekend in Charleston was an absolute blast and only the start to my crazy travel schedule in May.  I got back home Monday afternoon and Jon and I will be leaving again tomorrow to attend a wedding in Atlanta this weekend.  This is the first of three weddings I'll be attending this month and the only one I won't be decorating.  It's going to be a crazy (and beautiful) ride! Because of my busy schedule, I'm not sure how often I'll be able to update the blog, but I'll try to give you guys some peeks into the craziness as much as I can. Today I want to share with you another update from the nursery in Dallas I've been working on.  When searching for a rug, I knew I wanted something simple, yet visually interesting.  After a little hunt, the winner became the  Dhurrie Diamond Soho Rug  in taupe and ivory.  The pattern is perfect and the natural tones work wonderfully with the color palette in the room.  Below is the photo of the ...

Do you notice anything new in the nursery?  If you guessed the bedding, you are correct!  I love so many aspects of this space, but I think the bedding is one of my favorite parts. Here is proof that you can mix and match different bedding pieces and still achieve one cohesive look.  I chose tufted linen bumpers from Restoration Hardware Baby, a chevron patterned sheet from DwellStudio and a vintage-washed percale crib skirt from RHB.  None of them belong in a set together, yet they all work.  Don't be afraid to make your own look. Here is a closeup view of the different textures. The pom pom blanket is another new favorite of mine.  The oversized poms are playful and unexpected, adding another layer of coziness without being overbearing. Aside from the bedding, we also finalized the rug selection.  I can't wait to see it in the space!

I received some more photos from my clients last week showing the arrival of some more of the nursery furniture and a few accessories.  So now it's time to show the updates to you guys. The original room design had a bookcase in a vintage buttercream finish, but unfortunately when the clients went to order it, they found out it was on backorder until August, a month after the baby's due date--not going to work. If there's one thing I can tell about the design process (whether it be rooms, weddings, etc.) it's that no matter how well you plan, something is bound to go wrong.  There are so many variables that go into a design that one of them is bound to not work out. And that's okay.  There's always another solution, sometimes even better than the first.  In this case, the finish was switched from the vintage buttercream to an antiqued charcoal brown, and it worked out perfectly. I'm pleased to show you some progress photos from the nursery  that I shared with you the other day.  The paint is up on the walls, the bed is in and the curtains are hung!  I'm in love with the sweet, softness of the whole space.  The Benjamin Moore-Silver Chain colored walls are just perfect. You can see a little bit of what the previous color of the room was in this photo.  Such a subtle change that makes a big difference.  I also wanted to show you this adorable goose that my clients found at an antique shop in Dallas.  Isn't it cute? And last but not least, some more of the items for the room have arrived!  My clients said "it's like Christmas morning around here!" :)  I love excitement that comes with transforming spaces.  It never gets old!

Today, I'm so happy to finally share with you guys the nursery board I've been working on the last couple of weeks.  When Aimee and Joe first contacted me a few weeks ago to see if I could help them put together a nursery design for their first baby, due in July, I was more than thrilled.  Lucky for me, they already had great taste and some ideas for a jumping off point.  When they informed me that they really liked my style, shown in my other design boards , I knew we'd make a great team.  They were very active in the whole design process, which made my job much easier. The first thing I did was come up with a layout for the room.  The room being used for their nursery was a large size for their 1960's house at 18'5" x 11'5".  Therefore, proper furniture placement was a big issue.  Aimee and Joe didn't want the room to look too barren with just a chair and crib and needed help finding the right pieces to fill the space.  After some brainstormin...

Jon had a great birthday yesterday.  He loved his gifts and my very first double layer cake I made for him!  But more on all of that tomorrow.  Today I want to show you a vintage modern nursery design board I've been working on.   My favorite rooms always have contrasting elements in them.  Sometimes too much of something can be a bad thing.  You have to mix it up!  Whether it be materials or periods of style, I think the most beautiful rooms have an effortless juxtaposition to them.  In this nursery I achieved that in several ways--through the use of varying materials, colors, patterns and furniture pieces.   One of my favorite things about this design is the use of pink AND navy fabrics.  Who said navy couldn't be used in a little girl's nursery?  The two colors balance each other out and add a sophistication to the room without making it over the top girly. {click to enlarge} I love it all came together and how each piece pla...
