My Baby Shower

Some of our sweet friends and family helped host a baby shower brunch for me and our little girl last weekend in Birmingham.  It was absolutely beautiful and a day I will always cherish.  Sweet, feminine and full of breakfast food--it couldn't have been more up my alley. :) The booties on the sign-in table were my mom's when she was an infant and the sweater and cap were also made for me and my sister when we babies. A 'wisdom tree' was also placed on the entry table for guests to leave their words of advice. Black and white stripes and touches of pink and green were used throughout.  My friend and hostess, Bekah, created this beauty after some Pinterest inspiration.  If you can believe it, it tasted even better than it looked! The menu was all about breakfast and included items such as pancakes, cinnamon rolls, fresh fruit, donut holes, breakfast casserole muffins and grits.  Delish! How cute are these mini pancakes?...

Rock On

Well, we finally have a piece of furniture in the nursery.  Hooray!  Yesterday, my amazing Nurseryworks Empire Rocker showed up (it wasn't supposed to ship until mid September).  What a nice surprise!  I was lucky enough to have my friend Jessica over here to help me put it together and move it into the nursery and I love love love it! I knew I wanted something a little different when it came to a rocker/glider selection and the lines on this one totally fit the bill.  Modern with a traditional bent--just my style. I purchased the diamond poof (on sale!) at Target at the beginning of the summer and the herringbone throw is also a previous purchase that I've been waiting to showcase.  Obviously, there's still a lot more to do (see the pink walls?), but just having this piece in the room now makes me feel like there's been some progress!

The One Who Hears It

Last night as I was lying in bed, I began thinking about all of my recent prayers requests.  In the last week or so it seems there has been a prevalent amount of pain, suffering, uncertainty, worry and loss in the lives of family, friends and even strangers around the world.  You can't tune into the news without hearing of some senseless killing.  Disease and death are taking over lives.  Thoughts of the unknown are too scary to fathom.  My heart aches for each new story I hear, and each fear I harbor inside myself.  Yesterday I even found myself in tears after reading another sad Facebook status.  While I know the amped up pregnancy hormones aren't helping, I think I would mourn for the loss and unknown regardless.  This world can be a sad and scary place.  But it can also be beautiful. Last Friday I had the privilege of meeting an older man in the doctor's office while waiting on my glucose test.  He sat next to me and began making c...

Tuesdays- Bump Watch Day

So this is how I've been spending my Tuesdays, the day my pregnancy weeks rollover, also known as the day of the week I'm due.  Our dog Remington has been a great assistant and has made appearances in many of the photos.  :) We're 26 weeks along now, and I've been documenting "the bump" since week 19.  Because Jon is overseas I've succumbed to selfies and a floor length mirror.  Hey, a girl's gotta do what a girl's gotta do.  It's been amazing to see how much she's grown week by week.  I can't believe we only have 14 more to go now!

Mom's New Kitchen

Mom's kitchen renovation starts today!  What a long time coming this has been.  It's going from 1970's down and brown to a clean, white wonder.  I can't wait to show you guys the before and after shots! In the meantime, here is the moodboard of the overall look of the space.  Click on the image in enlarge.

Nursery Finds...and Riley Finds

I purchased a few more things for the nursery last week and a couple of the items were happy accidents courtesy of TJMaxx/HomeGoods--even better! Last Friday I decided to go ahead and purchase the Pier 1 curtains featured on the nursery board .  They are sold only online so I knew I'd have to get them sent to me in order to see if they'd really work with my other fabrics.   Feeling accomplished that I'd checked another thing off of my nursery to do list, I decided to get out of the house for a little while and headed to my go to place, TJ Maxx.  We have a rather large TJ Maxx/HomeGoods combination store here in Pensacola so I never know what I'll find when I step inside. This time, one of those finds was curtains.  Yes, curtains for the nursery.  Curtains to potentially replace the ones I had just ordered maybe an hour before.  The TJ ones, however, were a quarter of the cost so I had to snatch them up.  I love the medallion print... and the fact ...

Nursery Blues

Man this nursery design has been a doozy.  I've come to the realization that I need to create a line of cute girl bedding this isn't pink, because apparently the limited options out there are no good. I've never been a pink girl.  Even growing up purple, periwinkle and blue were my favorites.  Don't get me wrong, I've found some super cute pink baby outfits for our girl, but having a nursery consumed in pink was not on my agenda.  I had my perfect crib bedding in mind but after an exhaustive and expensive search, I came to the realization that it wasn't going to happen.  I wanted a blue linen bumper with a taupe piping or flange and a taupe linen bedskirt.  Unfortunately, everything I found was out of my price range.  Try as I may, I just can't rationalize spending over $400 on crib bedding.  My bedding didn't even cost that much and there's a whole lot more to it!  Not to mention the fact that Jon would think I was completely insane :) ...
