Nursery Update-Furniture and Accessories

I received some more photos from my clients last week showing the arrival of some more of the nursery furniture and a few accessories.  So now it's time to show the updates to you guys. The original room design had a bookcase in a vintage buttercream finish, but unfortunately when the clients went to order it, they found out it was on backorder until August, a month after the baby's due date--not going to work. If there's one thing I can tell about the design process (whether it be rooms, weddings, etc.) it's that no matter how well you plan, something is bound to go wrong.  There are so many variables that go into a design that one of them is bound to not work out. And that's okay.  There's always another solution, sometimes even better than the first.  In this case, the finish was switched from the vintage buttercream to an antiqued charcoal brown, and it worked out perfectly. Here's a closer view. The dresser/changing table was already selec...

Five Things Friday - Part 7

Say goodbye to fake greenery and roosters, and add more cabinets on top of your existing kitchen cabinets.  No need to waste that space.  Add glass fronts to show off your best pieces. Dress up typical wooden chairs with monogram covers like these. Happy Endings.  If you're not watching this show, you're missing out on A LOT of laughs. I gave up sweets for Lent so I can't wait to eat something like this very very soon.  Chocolate peanut butter mousse cheesecake...mmmmm. Thankful for my risen Lord. Happy Easter everyone!

1940's Stunner-House Tour

The last time I went to visit my sister, she told me that her boss and his wife were selling their home there and that I would love it! Of course I have no plans to move to her city, but I figured a little look at this home wouldn't hurt, especially if it was "right up my alley" like she said. Well friends, I have to say she was right on the money! I found the home on Trulia and was immediately smitten. If only this gem could be transported to Pensacola... A girl can dream. Let's take a look inside this beautiful 1940's home. It's 3,400 sq. ft. and full of amazing antiques and details. Meredith, my sister, said the wife was responsible for all of the decorating, and I think she did a wonderful job. The striped ceiling, chandelier, built-in arched bookcase and furnishings in the living room as just gorgeous. The first dining room has more paint details with stenciled walls. The kitchen features gray painted cabinets, a white subway tile ba...

DIY Burlap Table Runners

Yesterday a big, heavy package arrived on my doorstep.  I was so excited when I realized that what was inside was an integral part to the weddings I'm styling in May-burlap!  That's right, a roll of 300 feet of burlap was sitting at my front door.   I immediately got it out, and went to work on the first order of business, table runners. My brides are using 60" round tables so I knew I needed 108" for the table runners, measuring 6" less on each side than the tablecloth itself, which is 120". After figuring out the length, I began to unroll the spool and measure.   Once I got the length right, it was time to start cutting, first the length and then the width.  The width of the burlap straight from the roll was 20 inches, a little too wide for what I needed.  Plus one side had white stitching running down the side that had to go.  Cutting burlap in a straight line is relatively easy because you can simply follow the lines of its large...

Custom Bunks

I'm normally not the biggest fan of bunk beds.  There's just something a little too manufactured and stale about them.  BUT when they are used in custom built-ins, I'm smitten.  There are so many different ways you can make them cozy and inviting.  Here are a few favorites: Images via  1 , 2 , 3 , 4 , 5 , 6-unknown, 7 , 8 , 9-10 unknown

Five Things Friday - Part 6

I've been busy this week getting some things done for my May brides.  And as a result, I've been immersing myself with tons of inspiring weddings.  So in response to that, I thought today's five things should be all about weddings!  Hope you enjoy! Hydrangeas aren't just for bouquets anymore.  I'm loving this hydrangea boutonniere.  Both of my brides will be incorporating jute into their wedding decor as well.  You can't go wrong with the natural look of the wrapped stems.    Pennant food labels.  Amazing.  I think these would work great at a beach wedding with the flags being reminiscent of nautical flags.  And I'd substitute the jar filler shown here for sand. I don't think I'll ever tire of grouped white flowers and jute wrapped mason jars.  Ever. Vintage bottles are a great way to serve drinks at your wedding or party.  Charming, unique and inexpensive (Ikea or TJMaxx sell these), these are sure to have your gu...
