Birthday Recap and Derby Days

I tried my hand at making and decorating my first cake for Jon's birthday.  Jon loves chocolate so I made a double layer chocolate cake with chocolate icing.  Apparently he was impressed because he told his parents (before he knew I made it) that I bought him a cake.  I was so proud.  I need to work on my writing, but I was pleased with it for my first try.  I'm sure Jon will love me showing the world his nickname :)

A close-up of my first attempt at decorating :)

Here's Jon opening his first present--a watch winder for his fancy schmancy watch he got on our honeymoon last year.

He loved it. Yay!

Next up, a new robe.  (Jon loves lounging around in his robe, but it was time for a new one!)  Here he is showing it off :)

I think he's a fan, don't you?

And last but not least, here is the birthday boy posing with his cake.

The first birthday I got to celebrate with Jon was his 30th, and it was the same day as The Kentucky Derby.  Last year The Derby happened during our honeymoon.  Although we have a pretty busy weekend ahead of us, but I'm hoping we still get to watch it.  I love all of the hats (I'm a hat girl) and of course the history and energy that comes with the race.

Hope you all have a great Derby weekend!

New Coffee Table

After more than a year of debate, I've finally decided on and ordered us a new coffee table! As mentioned here , there were several styles I was considering.  However, in the end the tufted ottoman came out on top.  Not only was it versatile, so it can be used for years to come, but it also will be good for when we have kiddos down the road.  I can't tell you how many people I know who have had to either remove their coffee tables for the safety of their kids' noggins or have had to add those tacky corner protectors.  I did not want to invest in a new piece only to have to stow it away down the road.  So this seemed to be the perfect solution.  And thanks to my Joss & Main membership, it turned out to be the perfect price too. I was all set to order a tufted ottoman from Ballard Designs.  I had already received a swatch sample of the fabric I selected and everything.  But a few days later, I got a notification from Joss & Main of a sale event called The Tufted C

Auden's First Birthday-Pumpkins and Pearls

It's only been 6 months now, but better late than never, right? Auden turned one on November 11th and we celebrated at our home with close family and friends.  The theme of the party was pumpkins and pearls.  Pun'kin is one of the nicknames I called her when she was little and pearls bring a girly flair and tied into our reveal party when we found out we were having a girl so it seemed perfect. I had so much fun creating her invitation and all of the party printables.  And for a little extra adornment, the invites were tied with jute twine and placed in scalloped envelope. Invites available for purchase here . Here's the sweet birthday girl in her homemade hat.  I love how the bow on top turned out :)  Her birthday stats poster is now available here . The smash cake table with our go-to milk jars (Starbuck frappuccino glasses) with paper straws.  The tree slab plate they are sitting on was also used at our wedding.  The smash cake was a $10 cake from Public and

Southern Gentleman Baby Shower

Last month I helped throw my best friend (we met in 9th grade speech class :)) Lauren's baby shower for her soon-to-arrive baby boy, Gunner.  The shower had a "Southern gentleman" theme complete with bow ties, silhouettes and gingham print.  Personal touches and family items were used throughout, including baby Gunner's dad's bow ties :) Gunner's daddy's "going home" outfit greeted guests at the sign in table, along with a framed "Southern gentleman in the making" print. A variety of centerpieces graced the tables with groupings of baby mementos, flowers and photos. An antique baby basket helped house the gifts. The drink menu consisted of milk, apple juice (one of Lauren's cravings), fruit-infused water and coffee. The menu was made of a variety of brunch goodies including fruit, doughnuts, muffins, shrimp and grits, breakfast casserole and a waffle bar.  And of course no shower is comp
