In the Meantime - Mom's Kitchen Updates

As I mentioned here, there are a lot of changes coming to my mom's kitchen in the future. However, they aren't going to happen overnight. There are several other things on the house "to do" list that currently trump the new cabinets. So in the meantime, I've made a few FREE adjustments to bring a little life and function to the space.

As shown before, there was an awkward and unsable space in the corner of the kitchen.

Luckily, we have a lot of unused furniture pieces in our garage and one of those pieces just happened to be an old buffet we haven't used in years. I decided to measure the empty space and the buffet, and much to my delight, I realized it would be a pretty good fit for the time being. So I dusted that baby off, brought it upstairs and started to accessorize.

Now the space currently looks like this.

You may notice I also relocated the toaster to another counter. I like the new, open feel and plan to get some cute glass canisters for the counter to hold my mom's flour, sugar, etc.

We still have a long way to go in updating the space, but I think this is a good fix in the meantime. And best of all, it didn't cost a dime!

Our Living Room Mood Board

Our living room is slowly but surely coming together. The biggest To Do's are ordering a new media console, painting the room (which is unfortunately open to the dining room, kitchen, office and breakfast area which means lots of painting to be done!), order a few lamps and a console for the long wall behind the couch. Vintage Western Couples Shower

Last week I helped host a couples shower for our friends Colin and Maranda who are getting married in January. The overall idea was to create a vintage, western feel perfect for fall. Maranda initially wanted to have an autumn wedding but the timeline wasn't right, so this was our slight nod to a festive, fall soiree. Along with my own ideas, I also took to Pinterest (my new drug) and party sites like Hostess with the Mostess to get inspiration. The largest inspiration was from this party on hwtm.com. It had so many cute ideas that I had to steal borrow a few of them and add my own little twist to them. The final outcome led to this: Here's a front view (everything wasn't quite out yet, but I wanted to show you this angle). Up Up And Away- Take Two (And Three)

We took our second family flight this past June. We took the earliest flight out so we had to wake up at 4:00am to get everything ready. I had all of the girls' stuff ready and laid out so we only woke them five minutes before we left at 5:00 am. Rollins is our late sleeper so I thought she would for sure fall back asleep in the car on the way to the airport. Nope. Auden, who is typically my early riser (with the sunrise), fell asleep instead. I guess Rollins knew something was up and was too excited to miss anything. She didn't fall asleep until we were 10 minutes from our friends' house in Dallas. Meanwhile, Auden fell asleep again on the plane.
