Shower and Savings

With just a few days away from Mer's baby shower, I've been busy running around getting all of the last minute things done.  I've been holding off on posting about a lot of details on here because Meredith reads the blog.   BUT since she caught a glimpse of some of the items stashed away in our room when she was here last weekend, I now can share a little with you guys.

I took two old gold frames we had in our yard sale pile and sprayed them with gray spray paint so that they'd fit in with the color scheme of the shower.  I put the shower invite in one (which will go on the sign-in table when you walk in) and a sign I created to go by the favors in the other.  Can you guess what the favors will be? :)

While out running errands, I also picked up my coupon trip items for the week.  Here is what I got at CVS.
Total spent: $27.23
Total saved: $24.30 + $2 back in EC bucks

I had 2 Buy One Get One coupons on the Dove shampoo and conditioner so I got 4/$6!
I had a B1G1 for the Tresemme shampoo and conditioner as well so I got 2/$3.50.
The Garnier curling sprays were 4/$15 and I got $5 back in EC bucks.
The Olay body wash was on sale for $6.99 - $5 EC bucks I got in the first transaction= $1.99 and I got $2 EC bucks back on that to use on my next purchase!
Tax: $1.56

And here's what I got at Walgreens:
Total spent: $15.52
Total saved: $20.36

Starbucks Frappuccino- On sale for 2$8 - $2 off/2= $6 (I'm going to save these bottles and use them at parties later!)
Dawn soap- On sale for 99¢ - 25¢ coupon= 74¢
Betty Crocker cake mix and icing- On sale for 2/$3 - 75¢= 2/$2.25
Scope mouthwash- On sale for $2.99 - $1.50 coupon= $1.49
3M command strips- On sale for $1.99 - 50¢ coupon= $1.49
Pampers baby wipes- On sale for $2.49 - 50¢ coupon= $1.99
Tax:$2.68

I've just recently started couponing so I've got a lot to learn, but I'm loving every bit of the savings so far!

I also needed to pick up some carafes at Bed Bath & Beyond.  They are normally $4.99 but BBB is having a big clearance sale so I got them for $2.99 each!

It was a great day of savings!

Southern Gentleman Baby Shower

Last month I helped throw my best friend (we met in 9th grade speech class :)) Lauren's baby shower for her soon-to-arrive baby boy, Gunner.  The shower had a "Southern gentleman" theme complete with bow ties, silhouettes and gingham print.  Personal touches and family items were used throughout, including baby Gunner's dad's bow ties :)

Gunner's daddy's "going home" outfit greeted guests at the sign in table, along with a framed "Southern gentleman in the making" print.

A variety of centerpieces graced the tables with groupings of baby mementos, flowers and photos.

An antique baby basket helped house the gifts.
The drink menu consisted of milk, apple juice (one of Lauren's cravings), fruit-infused water and coffee.
The menu was made of a variety of brunch goodies including fruit, doughnuts, muffins, shrimp and grits, breakfast casserole and a waffle bar.
And of course no shower is complete without a little something sweet. These b…

Christmas Trees-Part 2 (Rustic and Coastal)

Here are my other favorite Christmas tree styles-rustic and coastal (since we're moving to Florida).  Enjoy!

Use tea stained manila tags to create ornaments.  So simple, yet so cute.

This rustic tree has just the right mix of gold, silver and burlap...my faves!  The stockings are adorable too.

Christmas at the beach anyone?  Starfish make the perfect adornments for a coastal holiday.

Coastal blues bring this tree (and these presents) to life in this traditional home.

This tree is full of more starfish and the hydrangeas and chartreuse color palette remind me of my wedding :)

Now to decide which style to use...or perhaps a mix of the styles is in order!  Do you change the theme of your tree every couple of years?

Planes or Pearls? Gender Reveal Party

On Friday, June 28th, Jon and I headed out to see the gender of Baby Reutter.  Jon wanted to find out as soon as possible, and I wanted to wait to be surprised with everyone at the reveal party the next day. So we decided that he would find out and be the one set up the "big reveal."  Baby Reutter didn't want to cooperate on the first attempt but after some cold water, walking around and sweet patience from the ultrasound tech, we got the "money shot."  I'm not going to lie, it was a bit torturous at first to not be in the know with Jon, but after the first few hours, I was good to go and so excited about the surprise for the next day.  Here we are about to head out to the reveal appointment.
Now for the reveal party on Saturday...As mentioned before, I wanted a unique theme for the party.  Since Jon is a pilot, I thought planes would be a cute idea for a boy.  For the girl, I thought of pearls; they're sweet, feminine and also happen to be my birthsto…
