Shower and Savings

With just a few days away from Mer's baby shower, I've been busy running around getting all of the last minute things done.  I've been holding off on posting about a lot of details on here because Meredith reads the blog.   BUT since she caught a glimpse of some of the items stashed away in our room when she was here last weekend, I now can share a little with you guys. 

I took two old gold frames we had in our yard sale pile and sprayed them with gray spray paint so that they'd fit in with the color scheme of the shower.  I put the shower invite in one (which will go on the sign-in table when you walk in) and a sign I created to go by the favors in the other.  Can you guess what the favors will be? :)

While out running errands, I also picked up my coupon trip items for the week.  Here is what I got at CVS.
Total spent: $27.23
Total saved: $24.30 + $2 back in EC bucks

I had 2 Buy One Get One coupons on the Dove shampoo and conditioner so I got 4/$6!
I had a B1G1 for the Tresemme shampoo and conditioner as well so I got 2/$3.50.
The Garnier curling sprays were 4/$15 and I got $5 back in EC bucks.
The Olay body wash was on sale for $6.99 - $5 EC bucks I got in the first transaction= $1.99 and I got $2 EC bucks back on that to use on my next purchase!
Tax: $1.56

And here's what I got at Walgreens:
Total spent: $15.52
Total saved: $20.36

Starbucks Frappuccino- On sale for 2$8 - $2 off/2= $6 (I'm going to save these bottles and use them at parties later!)
Dawn soap- On sale for 99¢ - 25¢ coupon= 74¢
Betty Crocker cake mix and icing- On sale for 2/$3 - 75¢= 2/$2.25
Scope mouthwash- On sale for $2.99 - $1.50 coupon= $1.49
3M command strips- On sale for $1.99 - 50¢ coupon= $1.49
Pampers baby wipes- On sale for $2.49 - 50¢ coupon= $1.99
Tax:$2.68

I've just recently started couponing so I've got a lot to learn, but I'm loving every bit of the savings so far! 

I also needed to pick up some carafes at Bed Bath & Beyond.  They are normally $4.99 but BBB is having a big clearance sale so I got them for $2.99 each!   

It was a great day of savings!

Vintage Western Couples Shower

Last week I helped host a couples shower for our friends Colin and Maranda who are getting married in January. The overall idea was to create a vintage, western feel perfect for fall.  Maranda initially wanted to have an autumn wedding but the timeline wasn't right, so this was our slight nod to a festive, fall soiree.  Along with my own ideas, I also took to Pinterest (my new drug) and party sites like Hostess with the Mostess to get inspiration.  The largest inspiration was from this party on hwtm.com.  It had so many cute ideas that I had to steal borrow a few of them and add my own little twist to them.  The final outcome led to this: Here's a front view (everything wasn't quite out yet, but I wanted to show you this angle). I painted canvas with Colin and Maranda's silhouettes to anchor the center of the table and hung cafe lights (from my wedding) to light the backdrop (a striped bed sheet). Up Up And Away- Take Two (And Three)

We took our second family flight this past June.  We took the earliest flight out so we had to wake up at 4:00am to get everything ready.  I had all of the girls' stuff ready and laid out so we only woke them five minutes before we left at 5:00 am.  Rollins is our late sleeper so I thought she would for sure fall back asleep in the car on the way to the airport.  Nope.  Auden, who is typically my early riser (with the sunrise), fell asleep instead.  I guess Rollins knew something was up and was too excited to miss anything.  She didn't fall asleep until we were 10 minutes from our friends' house in Dallas.  Meanwhile, Auden fell asleep again on the plane.  Proof that you can never predict what toddlers will do during travel days.   Auden loved getting to use her new suitcase and travel backpack (that daddy so graciously attached to his luggage for her).  We got quite a few comments from those ...
